Peer Specialists are persons who have experienced significant mental health and/or substance use challenges in the past and who are now in recovery from those challenges. Peer Specialists use skills and become certified through a 40 hour training and lived experience to provide recovery support to others. They walk alongside others, and model recovery while utilizing the Peer Specialist Core Competencies and Ethics. They may be employed through mental health or substance use disorder treatment facilities, hospitals, prison or jails or other agencies.
Peer Specialist services are recognized as a National Evidence Based Practice (EBP) currently implemented by many states. Recover Wyoming is furthering this effort by providing a variety of training opportunities for Peer Specialist in Wyoming.
